Administration Assistant

Location: Brussels
Time: part-time (50%)
Start date: November 2008

Description:

Reporting to the Finance and Administration Manager of HPCR International (aisbl), the main responsibilities of the Administration Assistant are to:

 

  • Provide support to the Finance and Administration Manager on the financial status of the operating budgets;
  • Maintaining accounting records, budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting;
  • Perform Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable tasks;
  • Provide support when required in the overall day-to-day office management of the Brussels office ;
  • Assist the Project Coordinator with logistic arrangements and preparation of materials for expert meetings, trainings and other events organized by HPCR International.

Qualifications / Profile :

  •  University degree in Business Administration or Bachelor in Accountancy
  • 1 to 3 years professional experience in a similar position, preferably with an NGO/non-profit organization
  • Familiarity with WinBooks accounting software highly desirable;
  • Knowledge of Belgian accounting legislation;
  • Proficiency in MS Professional Office applications;
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and accurate ;
  • Have excellent oral and written skills in French and English (some knowledge of Dutch desirable);
  • Be flexible;
  • Hold all the necessary permits to work in Belgium and available to start employment in November 2008.

Internships

HPCR International offers occasional unpaid internships for undergraduate and graduate students interested in humanitarian affairs. Internships take place during the fall and spring semesters, as well as the summer. Current openings are listed below.

Peacebuilding Intern (summer)

Location: New York or Washington, D.C.
Time: 15-35 hours/week
Start date: Rolling

Description: The Peacebuilding Initiative, a project of HPCR International in cooperation with the Program on Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research (HPCR) at Harvard University, and in partnership with the United Nations Peacebuilding Support Office, seeks interns to help develop a thematic portal on peacebuilding.

The intern will assist the research team in conducting research on thematic areas and sub-topics using the Internet and specialized databases. Responsibilities may include researching, summarizing and cataloging relevant articles, news, websites, and other resources; performing quality control checks on databases; drafting background reports, briefs, and bibliographies on specialized topics; editing and proofreading; and data entry.

Candidates should have demonstrated interest and experience in peacebuilding, excellent research and writing skills in English, extensive experience in using the Internet and specialized databases, and great attention to detail.
